Scholarships Schemes for Ethnic Minority Students administrated by Hong Kong Unison

Overview

“The Chariot Club Ltd.”, formerly known as “The Macau Trotting Club Members’ (HK) Association Ltd.”, is a non-profit making organization which was established on 8th August 1981 by 21 Macau Trotting Club members. It aims to provide clubhouse services and activities to its members. This scholarship is set up designated to ethnic minority students with objectives to encourage more ethnic minority youth from less privilege class to pursue higher education as well as to provide concrete measures to lessen their financial tension. Unison is grateful to have the generous support from The Chariot Club Ltd. for ethnic minority students and honored to be the administrator for the scheme. The total donated amount is $160,000.

Objectives

1) To support ethnic minority youths who are keen to purse their tertiary education but facing financial difficulties;
2) To widen their career paths and provide them equal opportunity to become contributing members of the Hong Kong society;
3) To instill the spirit of hope and a sense of direction among the ethnic minority youth.


Eligibility

1. Ethnic minority residents in Hong Kong with valid HK Identity Card, and
2. Student who has been enrolled or to be enrolled in the academic year of 2011/2012 in a degree program of any tertiary education institute in Hong Kong (applicable to the Chariot Club Scholarships scheme), or
3. Full-time or Part-time students receiving a minimum of 1 year post-secondary education, such as Diploma, Associate Degree or Degree programs etc in Hong Kong (applicable to the Yun Lin HU Scholarships scheme)


Scholarship Details

- 10-12 scholarships of maximum HK$20,000 each or the annual tuition fees, whichever lower, will be awarded
- If no suitable candidates can be identified for the scholarships in the year, the fund will be rolled over to subsequent years.

Selection criteria

- include academic performance, financial need, conduct, personal strengths and qualities, involvement in community affairs and extra-curricular activities, clear life goals, readiness and desire to serve others, especially to ethnic minority communities etc
- The scholarship will be paid directly to the awardees’ educational institutions to cover their course fees, or reimburse to students
with the provision of school receipts, and will be granted by installment (s)

Application Procedures

1. Fill out the application form which is available at your school office or Hong Kong Unison’s website at http://www.unison.org.hk
2. Send the completed form to Hong Kong Unison by post/ in person to Room 1303, 13/F, Wang Yip Ind. Building, 1 Elm Street, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon on or before 31st August 2011 (Wed).
